PRAYER WALKING

Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.(Jeremiah 29:7)

Prayer-walking is simply praying as you walk. It has proven very effective when done on a regular basis. Many outstanding testimonies of breakthroughs and kingdom advancement have resulted. It is a creative way of enacting I Tim 2: 1- 4

It takes us out from the four walls of the church and releases a new vitality, fervour, interest, and proactive involvement. Different ideas are stimulated in the walk itself.

Before launching out on your walk, meet as a team and pray for the Lord’s covering and protection and for His leading on the walk. Pray for divine appointments …who knows what God may have in store.

Some guidelines:

  • Step out knowing that your prayers will make a difference!
  • Pray in faith – knowing that He who sends you is the Lord of heaven and earth –with Him nothing is impossible!
  • Pray God’s blessing, mercy, peace, love and goodness over the site– but then focus on prayer that will turn hearts, open hearts and bring the presence and power of God for harvest, transformation and life (as set out in the Prayer Points).
  • We suggest making a time each week or fortnight to undertake your assignment.  Establish a canopy over the area.
  • Be sensitive to the authorities over the site … some sites can be accessed easily as visitors (eg Shopping Centres, Sports Centres, Hotels, Beachfront, Hospitals, Parks, Bus & Tram Stations). Others like a Football Stadium, Schools or Business premises will be inaccessible unless permission is given by appropriate authorities. In those cases, pray around the area from the outside boundary.

Prayer Walking is more an undercover operation undertaken by the Ambassadors of the King (members of the royal priesthood.) Our purpose is to usher in the Lord’s presence over the area and pray for His authority to hold sway there.

  •  Go out in 2’s or 3’s …remember prayer is a conversation and as you walk you are conversing with the Lord. Pray back and forth as you walk along. (To those watching it will seem you are conversing with one another.)
  •  Pray with your eyes open, alert to whatever the Lord may draw to your attention.
  • Pray as the Holy Spirit leads you.
  • A pitfall: Don’t allow your prayer-walking to become a mobile fellowship time!  The focus should be upon the prayer objective – not ourselves.

Build your prayer on Communion with the Father.

Remember if we want the darkness to be pushed back, we need to turn on the light  (not focus on chasing the darkness.)  Through prayer, the aim is to affect the spiritual climate of an area, so that people have a greater opportunity to respond to the Kingdom of light.
