Guyana is located on the north coast of South America. The economy is based around gold, sugar, rice, forest products and minerals. Living standards have gradually improved since 1992, however the country was extensively damaged by flooding in 2005. Guyana was an atheist nation until 1985 when full religious freedom was granted. Currently 43% of the population identifies as Christian, closely followed by Hindu beliefs.
Problems to be solved:
Racial tension. Healing and reconciliation are needed.
Pray for unity amongst the Church. Pray that the Church would stand as a beacon of racial harmony.
Pray for Christians to stand firm on the Gospel.
Pray that the hope of the Gospel and the love of Christ as demonstrated through believers would permeate every sector of society.
Signs of hope:
Most ethnic groups are open to the Gospel.
Religious freedom has been established since the mid 1980s.
The Christian church is continuing to unite.’
